About My Father’s Business

fathersbusiness By Pastor Jeff,

Luke 2:41-50, “Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?”
I don’t know if it would be easy or hard to be the parent of “God manifest in the flesh” the bible does not contain much information of the life of Jesus between His birth and His appearance before John the Baptist other that He increased in wisdom and stature and in favour with God and man…

Jesus always knew what His purpose was and that was to bring the good news, become sacrificed, buried, and then resurrected for mankind! But he waited until the age of 30 to begin that ministry, Luke 3:23, “And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) …” why? He was God in the flesh from the very beginning, wasn’t He?
Waiting isn’t uncommon in the bible, Noah waited 120 years, Joseph 13, Abraham 25, Moses 40 and so on. But this was Jesus!

He ministered for just 3 and1/2 years, could you imagine the impact He would have had on the world if He would have started at the age of 25, 21, 18, or earlier. The only satisfactory reason I could find was that the age to enter the ministry for the Jewish was the age of 30, Number 4:1-4, “And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, Take the sum of the sons of Kohath from among the sons of Levi, after their families, by the house of their fathers, From thirty years old and upward even until fifty years old, all that enter into the host, to do the work in the tabernacle of the congregation. This shall be the service of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation, about the most holy things:” So, when Jesus turned about thirty, He was all in and whoever He chose into the ministry also became all-in!
God today is calling I believe all of us into the ministry, Luke 10:2, “Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.” He’s calling us to prepare ourselves for the soon to be wedding feast, in fact that’s what He says in Matthew 22:14, “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

I really hope and pray that those reading this will want to go beyond being called and desire to be chosen. I look at the life of the apostle Paul and you can see clearly that this was a man that moved from not only being called but being chosen. When he asked the voice of God saying “Lord, what wilt you have me to do”? He was answering the call of God and as he waited three days for Ananias to come he was moving into being chosen! Acts 9:13-16, “Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem: And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name. But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: For I will show him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake.”

Listen we all are called at least to fulfill the great commission! That’s just not for a few of select individuals. We all have the ability to talk to your family, co-workers, neighbors about Jesus, they are not going to get it from most media outlets, from most politicians, from our education system, and so on.

Besides being called to share about Jesus, we also all are given certain gifts to further the Kingdom of God. Never, ever, no matter how small or how large of a part you play in the body of Christ ever think your job is better or less that anyone’s else. If you are about the father’s business it is for his glory not yours. I do what I do because God has called and chosen me, believe there are many things that I don’t care to do, but because of His love for me, and my love for Jesus, I will do whatever He asks of me!

Many have been in a period of waiting, I tell you this day that the time of waiting is over!Let’s be about our Father’s business, let’s not just sit idly by, answer the call to be chosen!
