Let’s Stand

Ephesians-6-13-Put-On-The-Full-Armour-Of-God-beige-copy

By Pastor Jeff,

Ephesians 6:11, “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Verse 13, “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
(withstand; anthistēmi, anth-is’-tay-mee; to stand against, that is, oppose:—resist, withstand.) antihistamine; any of various compounds that counteract histamine in the body and that are used for treating allergic reactions (such as hay fever) and cold symptoms .I don’t know about you, but the dealing with satan is one allergy I would like to get rid of quickly! Verse 14, “Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;”

Three times Paul tells us here that it is important for us to “stand”! I don’t know about you but it seems very apparent that we are living in is not evil? So, what does the word of God say we are supposed to do about that?

I want you to notice something here, Paul does not tell us once we have the armor of God on, to go out and look for the enemy, he simply tells us to stand!
I’ve been serving our Lord Jesus Christ as best as I can for going on 35 years now, and I can tell you without a doubt that what Jesus says in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
Tribulation, (pressure (literally or figuratively):—afflicted, (-tion), anguish, burdened, persecution, tribulation, trouble.) it will find you, if you are breathing, you can’t ignore it, you can’t hide from it, you can’t give it away, and you can’t pray it away. It’s part of the curse that we are all subjected to until we go home to be with Jesus. Don’t ever worry about looking for a fight with the enemy of our soul, because it will find you! The bible just tells us to be ready by putting on the whole armor of God and stand!

We also need to be aware of some key points here, Verse 10, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”
Who’s strength? Who’s power?
As I get older, I unfortunately can relate to our friend Job a little more as we see the consequences of sin on this fallen world, Job 42:2, “I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.”
I think most people have misread the Book of Job, in that most commentaries I have read say it shows that Satan is limited in what he can do to anyone. I don’t believe that’s entirely true, Job 1:10, “Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.” It was this divine protection that was place upon Job and his family that protected him. Otherwise why would Jesus tell us that, “In the world ye shall have tribulation:” If we all when we come to Christ have this same protection! why do we need this armor that Paul tells us to put on?

James 4:7, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” His strength, His power! 1Corinthians 16:13, “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit (act manly) you like men, be strong.”
Exodus 14:13, “And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will show to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”

Listen, the devil has much power and is one not to be trifled with, mankind surrendered this world to him at the fall, it took the death of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to snatch the keys of death and hell away from him. Paul told the church at Ephesus to put on the armor, to stand, if you are struggling to get up, grab unto my arm and stand, if you don’t feel that you able to keep standing, stand anyways!

How to Get the Victory!

victory-in-jesus

By Pastor Jeff,

Deuteronomy 20:1-4, “When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the LORD thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people, And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them; For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.”

Israel had many battles in which God miraculously went before to ensure victory for the nation, Joshua at Jericho, Gideon against the Midianites, Jonathan against the Philistines to name a few. But the question is, was the victory prepared before the battle or is only announced after the battle is won? We normally think or give credit  for victory after the battle, whether it be at war, a sporting event, test has finished.

Others will claim the victory is in the preparation for the battle, if you believe in yourself or those that fight with you that you have already won. We do a lot of preparation for battle don’t we? we need to identify who are foe is, with Christians we know our foe is Satan, for we wrestle not against flesh and blood… We also need to know the place the battle is taking place (what kind of terrain, etc.). We need to know those who fight with us, the strengths of each as well as their weaknesses. We also would need to know the right time to go into battle {for us Christians now would be good).

1 John 5:4-5, “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” God revealed to me in the story of the “Prodigal Son” a key for us to knowing we have the victory already in our lives. Most of us know it well, how the youngest son desired his inheritance then went and wasted it. He found himself slopping pigs and eating the very food he was feeding them. The bible tells us one day that he came to himself and decided to return to his fathers house if only to be as one of his servants. Well the father one day looked out and saw his son and most of us might of reacted differently in that we would of maybe had him sent away, or required him to work as a servant or even a slave. Isaiah 55:8-9, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” The father didn’t react as many of us would think he should of, he instead ran to his son, wrapped his arms around him, gave his son his ring and a new robe, and announced a party to announce his sons return.

There was a  period in my own walk in that I found myself in the pig pen slopping pigs, I felt that no way God would ever take me back, but one day I came to myself, recognized the need of Jesus to take over my life again. Unfortunately I felt if I would of returned to the church that I had attended that I would be negatively judged because I had witnessed this attitude of  the church before, shame on us! Praise God though I did find a church that I was not known before and was roundly accepted. This is the attitude that JAM tries to portray!

If we have entered the race, we have the victory already, and though we may stumble, make huge mistakes, or may even fall away for a time. Jesus has already won the victory, 1 Corinthians 15:57, “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

The Anchor

heb-6_19-anchor-of-our-soul-hope1    By Pastor Jeff

About a month ago my wife Carmen, stepson Lucas, and I went to visit my dear mother-in-law in Northern Minnesota. She lives on a lake and when ever we go up there we have to try our good fortunes out on the lake fishing. So we took the boat out on a somewhat very windy day and since she is familiar with the best fishing spots we dropped anchors in what promised to be a grand location. Well it didn’t take very long until I realized that we were drifting rather quickly into the nearby weed bed. So we pulled up anchor, found them to be clean of any mud or weeds so we motored our way back to our original area, dropped anchors again but this time we stood firm. When were ready to move we pulled up the anchors, this time it was much harder to bring them up, and we found the anchors this time covered with mud and weeds from the lake floor.

God then started to talk to me shortly after about this and I found the scripture in Hebrews 6:19, “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;” Jesus Christ needs to be our anchor for He is both “sure and steadfast” but unfortunately many a Christian does not see the importance of having and being able to use their anchor to be able to withstand the even lightest of winds. Many just put there anchor in the bow of the boat, where it gets lost over a period of time so when the wind comes they find themselves bashed against the weeds or worse the rocks of this world. We can compare this to the word of God, 2 Timothy 3:16, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” Jesus also told us that we cannot live by bread alone but by every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God. Too many believers are being led astray by the many false prophets of our day, we need to read and study His word just not on Sundays but throughout our week, Amen!

Depending on the size of your boat you also need to have the proper anchor, if it’s to small, it really becomes as no use, and once again find yourself being blown of course. We need to have a daily prayer life with our Lord and Savior to allow our faith to be large enough when the winds become stronger.

We then need to have the anchor secure enough for it to withstand in times that the enemy is putting everything it can to push us away from the love of Jesus Christ in our lives. We need to put on the full armor of God as mentioned in Ephesians 6:10-18 to allow us to do this. Its becoming more apparent that this world is becoming increasingly against the true message of salvation and living fully for the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We need to have our anchor sure and steadfast in Jesus Christ in order to be able to withstand the wiles of the devil, so let Jesus become the anchor of your soul!
