The Word is Quick and Sharp!

Sword Of The Spirit

By Pastor Jeff,

Hebrews 4:11-12, “Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
The word of God, I will never apologize about speaking of how important it is for us believers to fall in love with the bible and to continue to devour it. Again, I stand before you and tell you that we have to abandon the old way that many of us have been brought up of taking one verse in the bible, memorize it sometimes, then make a doctrine of it.

In this chapter the writer is talking to us  about rest, for in this world rest is something that is very difficult to obtain we are so busy going to and fro that we miss opportunities to receive the rest that comes from Jesus Christ.

The word of God is quick and powerful, literally the bible is life and active, John 10:7-11, “Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.”

Its sharper than any two-edged sword, “any” not some, not most, “any, all” Ephesians 6:17, “…the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:” I ask you does this sword no matter how sharp it is serve any purpose if it is just sitting on a mantel as a decoration?

Piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow. Wow, that is deep! Can any of us see the soul? The spirit? How about the joints and marrow? Its so quick, so powerful, so sharp that it penetrates deep within the heart and soul of man, you may not see the effects of it but,
Isaiah 55:8-11, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” Mouth in the Hebrew is two-edged interesting isn’t it?

Don’t ever stop sharing the word of God, we have so much technology today that is being used to share negativity, and please don’t take this wrong, recipes, pictures of our pets are not bad things, but Let’s flood it with the word of God, you don’t know where and who the mighty two-edged sword will strike!

And is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Psalms 119:9-11, “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Hid, to hoard or reserve; to protect, esteem, lay up, (keep) secret (-ly, place).
2 Timothy 3,  Tells us about a day that will become so evil that it be will difficult to see any good in the world, the Apostle Paul then tells us, in verses 14-17, But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”

The word of God needs to be precious to us believers and never be taken for granted! We must do everything we can to get the word of God out to this lost and dying world!
