According to His Purpose!

By Pastor Jeff,

Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
My understanding and how others have used this scripture was that no matter how bad of situation, event in your life, or catastrophe that God would always make it to be a good thing! Right?

Well as was hearing this verse and that explanation from others I started to ask God if that was what He really meant by what Paul wrote here. That no matter how bad things are happening in my life of in others of those around me it was going to be good!

I mean I do love God and I do believe that I am what is called according to His purpose, so why all the bad stuff?

So first I started to look at the verses around it and I found in chapter 8 that it is talking about the Spirit of God in our lives, verse 1, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Verse 9, “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” verse 14,” For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Verse 26, “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered”

It also talks of suffering, verses 17-18, “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

After reading all this I decided to look at verse 28 more closely to see if I could gain a better understanding, in the Amplified Bible it is written like this, “We are assured and know that [ God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good!”
Philippians 1:6-7, “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.”

The next part is “to them that love God” agape love! It is really a matter of trust, trusting that the one we love, the one who loves us is not the source of evil in this world and in our lives, that He desires us to be saved and for us to tell of His love and they will become saved.

The last part is “to them who are the called according to his purpose.” What is God’s purpose? Once you gain an understanding of what the lord is telling us here it will help you to understand the true meaning of this verse. For the word “called” means “invited, that is, appointed, or (specifically) a saint” “Purpose” means, “a setting forth, that is, proposal; specifically the show bread (in the Temple) as exposed before God:—purpose, shew [-bread].”
2Timothy 1:9, “Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,”

Romans 8:28 is really not about looking for good in everything that happens in our lives. It’s really a salvation message, His purpose for us is to be saved and this verse is one of those precious pearls that should not be cast at the feet of unbelievers. The unsaved cannot possibly understand its significance, and are likely to gain from it a perverted view of God, or an image of the Christian faith being a naive game of “let’s pretend everything is rosy, even when the roof caves in.”
The essential point about Romans 8:28 the focus is not on isolated events in the believer’s life, but on the sum total of all events. Do you see the difference between saying “each thing by itself is good” and “all things work together for good”? The verse does not tell me I should say “it is good” if I get an a car accident, or if my child dies. But it does say that God will use these events, and weave them together with every other facet of my life in order to produce what He knows to be the very best for me!
Have you ever baked a cake, would you try each ingredient by itself, taste the baking powder? How about baking soda? The great thing is that when you mix it all together in the right amounts, place it in the oven, an amazing metamorphosis took place. The cake becomes delicious. While the individual ingredients tasted terrible, the final product tasted terrific! If we would have judged the whole cake on the basis of the individual ingredients, we would never have believed it could be good.
The individual trials and apparent tragedies that come into our lives are neither “delicious” nor desirable. In fact, at first taste they are often not very good or even bitter. But God is capable of carefully measuring out and mixing up these ingredients in order to produce a final product that is truly good which is to spend eternity with Him.

Keep the Hope

hope-hand.jpg By Pastor Jeff,

1 Corinthians 13:13, “And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.” We have many sermons about “Faith” and many more about “Love”, but I want to take some time to talk about the middle one in this verse, “Hope”!

Hope is mostly defined as to anticipate something or desire something to happen, when we think of hope we use terms like I hope I get that job, I hope my favorite team wins, I hope we get that house we want, and so on. The bible however says of hope, Hebrews 11:1-3, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” Does that sound like a maybe?

The word hope in the bible means; to expect or confide:—(have, thing) hope (-d) (for), trust, in one definition they used the word “concrete”. Interestingly some translations of the word faith in the bible are the same Greek word translated Hope elsewhere, for example, Hebrews 10:23, “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith (Hope) without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;). When we place our “Hope” in Jesus Christ we can be certain, Psalms 71:5, “For thou art my hope, O Lord GOD: thou art my trust from my youth.” 14, “But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more.”

The enemy of our soul is doing all he can to cause us believers in Jesus Christ to lose hope, and unfortunately our circumstances dictate how we feel about hope more than it should. Sickness, death, finances, relationships all have an affect on our hope. Mercy Me has a new song that I find very powerful in addressing this, one verse goes like this, “I know You are able, I know You can, save through the fire with a mighty hand, but even if You don’t my Hope is in You alone”. This world is not always a pretty place to live but we need to remember that for us believers it’s only temporary. Revelations 21:1-4, “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

Keep the HOPE, its not a maybe, its concrete!

Commit to JESUS

committojesuschrist By Pastor Mike

We should commit our lives to JESUS because you will never go wrong. You will benefit in this relationship. It’s like a marriage.

Ephesians 5:22-31

22Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

Just like in a marriage you need:

TRUST. We have to have complete trust in JESUS that HE will stand on HIS Word and do everything HE says HE will do. HE will. Sometimes we are the ones who don’t have enough faith to trust HIM. Because everything HE says HE will do should be the normal in our lives every day.

COMMUNICATION. This is ginormous in every relationship. We need to be talking with JESUS all the time. And don’t forget to listen to what HE’S telling you. Communication is a 2 way street. It’s so awesome to spend time with JESUS.

LOVE. How huge is the LOVE that JESUS has for us. HE suffered and died for us. ALL of us because every life matters.

We should be burning with a passion to serve JESUS and other people and not serve ourselves.

Have you ever really gone hard after something in your life? Was there ever something you wanted in life that you thought was the most important thing in your life? There was no stopping you from getting it. You would do whatever it took to get it. What if we gave that same kind of effort to going hard after JESUS? What would happen to us as individuals, as families, as a church if we made this kind of effort to pursue GOD until we really found HIM?

We need to make the miraculous the normal in our lives. We have the blessings and presence of GOD in our services. GOD has met with us in a powerful way. I can’t help but feel that there is still something more, something deeper, higher, stronger that JESUS has for us as a church.

The hungrier you get – stay that way. Watch out world, aint no stopping us now. There will be a stronger display of HIS Glory and HIS Power. There will be a more freedom in Praise and Worship because we will respond to JESUS.

Stay excited as the Word is preached. Learn to worship like the little ones do. And please don’t worry about the time. Let’s be led by the Holy Spirit and let our worship flow through this building and out to the streets like a mighty river.

Are you ready to go hard after GOD or are you satisfied with your level of commitment? What will it take for you to move to a new level of commitment? Maybe you’ve never made a commitment of any kind to JESUS. That would be the place for you to start in following after Him today.

Mustard Seed Faith

By Pastor Jeff,

Matthew 17:20,“And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you”. Have you ever wondered if there is a difference between “Little Faith” and “Mustard Seed Faith?” I have, it seems to me that a mustard seed would qualify as being “little” right?

Jesus didn’t speak to favourably to those who He attributed had “little faith”, but He said the opposite if we had faith of a mustard seed. More than once we see Him condemn the disciples when confronted in various situations as having “little faith”. Matthew 8:25-26, “And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.”

So what is little faith? the word “little” means “incredulous (unwilling to believe) or lacking confidence”, it’s a faith that is stagnant, weak, not trusting or believing in someone or something. It’s a do nothing faith as spoken by James in chapter 2 verse 17, “Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone”.

This is the opposite of mustard seed faith, Mark 4:30-32, “And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.” The mustard seed though having a very small beginning, it measures about 1/64th of an inch, when it is planted into the soil grows to a rather large tree, about 20 feet high and 20 feet wide. It can grow in the worst of soils and all different climates, just as we as Christians must do.

It’s a faith that will take chances, maybe because of its smallness it must rely on its creator much more than the larger seeds in this world, the largest seed is the “Coco der mer” measuring up to 12 inches and weighing 40 pounds. Little faith puts limits on God, mustard seed faith says all things are possible, little faith does not allow for healings, mustard seed faith expects it, little faith does not believe in miracles, mustard seed faith cries out for it. Little faith cannot stand up to the pressures of this word, mustard seed faith pushes back, little faith affects no one for the kingdom, mustard seed faith turns the world upside down for Jesus Christ.

So if you would describe your faith, would it be “little faith” or “mustard seed faith”?

Peace of GOD

no-god-no-peace-know-god-know-peace-10  By Pastor Mike

It’s another sad day with the senseless killing of 14 people in San Bernardino. There are others that were injured. It all adds up with the killings in France. I check the internet and all the headlines of people getting murdered at their campsite. The gunman in Colorado. Planes being shot out of the air. And on and on it goes and it’s going to keep going. That’s why we have to share the Hope that we have in JESUS. We also need to share the Peace we get from JESUS. It is not going to get any better out there.

HE will give us all the peace we need if we will only take it. Peace is one of the fruits of the Spirit. When we get a hold of HIS peace deep in our hearts, HIS comfort will follow.

Philippians 4:6-7

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

When you receive the peace that passes all understanding, Don’t analyze it. Just put it in your heart and don’t question it or give it away. Because you also get HIS comfort. Let JESUS give you HIS peace and comfort. Let HIM cradle you in HIS arms. Keep HIS peace and comfort and don’t let anyone take it away from you. You don’t have to give it away, just let others see it in you. Put it in your heart, mind, soul, and spirit and you’ll realize how much joy there is living for GOD. Don’t give up the peace when trials come in your life. Trust HIM and Trust HIS WORD. JESUS said that the life HE gives us is everlasting, so is the peace and comfort. The more you experience this, the more you’ll enjoy being a child of GOD and others will see this and they’ll want it. Remember that JESUS is the Prince of Peace.

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Having the peace of GOD doesn’t always change the crisis, but it will change the way you respond to it.

Peace that JESUS gives is not the absence of trouble, but it’s the confidence that He is there with you always.

Peace rules the day when JESUS rules the heart.

I have 3 scriptures that should give us peace and comfort. Read them slowly and get to understand them.

Revelation 21:4

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Psalm 18:2

The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

 John 16:33

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
