Resolutions

By Pastor Jeff Hanson

2Thessalonians 1:11, “Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:”

2 Thessalonians 1:11 (ESV) states: “To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power

Definition of Resolution; a firm decision to do or not to do something, the quality of being determined or resolute: the action of solving a problem or contentious matter:

It can also mean; The smallest interval measurable by a telescope or other scientific instrument; the resolving power.

We are now 4 days into 2026 and you have to wonder how many New Years resolutions have already been broken?

The number one resolution for many is to exercise 25% #2 is to be happy 23%. #3 is eating better 22%, #4 and #5 are tied at 21% is to save money and improve health.

The reason many people’s resolutions fail is because they are based on the things of this world.

The bible determines “resolution” as a firm steadfast determination to follow God’s will, purpose, and principles!

God has made many Resolutions to us as in Numbers 23:19, “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” Gods promise is yea and amen!

Deu 31:6, “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” There are times when we felt alone and forsaking but after time you realize He was there!

Php 4:19, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory Christ Jesus.” If you ever traveled to another country, you quickly realize how truly blessed, we are!

As we get older these next scriptures become more precious to us, Revelations 21:1-4, “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

This look at the following verse of our original verse in Thessalonians 2Th 1:11, “Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: :12  That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

This is a prayer about God working in us and through us and there are many scriptures that we find that encourage us to pursue this.

2 Thessalonians 1:11 (ESV) states: “To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power”

Psalms 119:11, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” It’s imperative as questions that we read, study, and memorize His word to protect us from ourselves.

Isaiah 43:18-19, “Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” Let us not be held back by our past.

Philippians 3:13-14, “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ JesusGod has prepared a place that is far better than any place here.

Proverbs 16:3, “Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.” Have you let the Lord determine your path?

Heb 12:1-2  Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. This race is a long one, run it with patience and determination!

2Th 1:11, “Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:”

2Th 1:12, “That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

In everything we do we want Jesus Christ to get all the glory!
