Safety is Found?

By Pastor Jeff Hanson

1Thessalonians 5:1-4, “But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.”

Safety is a big concern in our world today, much more than when I was a kid or young man, who would of thunk that churches would need security teams and those that would carry a firearm in our services?

Do you remember a time when you didn’t have to lock your doors at home or on your car, when cameras weren’t needed to watch those coming into your lot?

I don’t know about you but I have no trouble falling to sleep at night.

Psalms 3:3-6, “But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.”

Psalms 4:8 “I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.”

You may have heard of what president Trump calls the “Golden Dome”. It’s his administration’s attempt to secure Greenland under the control of the United States and it’s for good reasons. Military experts for as long as I have been studying end times tells us that ever Russia and now China would attack us nuclear it most probable would be from the North coming right over the region of Greenland.

Our safety is the goal:

Psalms 27:4-5, “One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.”

The government has established many agencies with the intent of providing us safety, the FDA was started in 1906 as the “Pure Food and Drug Act” and on 1930 became what we know as the FDA. Its original task was to handle the interstate commerce of misbranded food and drugs. Now its watches over, regulates, and approves a huge area of public health safety. It has done many wonderful things but also has had some huge blunders as it too gets a lot of support 65% to 75% from pharmaceuticals for its drug division. Bextra was approved but removed because of heart/stroke risks, Thalidomide in the 50’s caused severe birth defects, hydroxychloroquine was pulled by the FDA in 2020 as they claimed it was a risk to those with Covid which many of the reports later found out to be the opposite, the numbers are over 2500 of drugs once approved but then had to be removed because of the side effects. The Food side has also many missteps in it, remember eggs?

OSHA was established in April 28, 1971 for the protection of workers and has done a pretty good job as in 1913 over 23,000 industrial deaths occurred and before its establishment 14,000-15,000 or 38 deaths were happening. In 2023 it is done to 5,283. Not zero so it doesn’t provide complete safety as accidents do occur. When I was at GM I remember that on occasion we had to do some preparation as they had been told a head of time that OSHA was coming.

Proverbs 18:10, “The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”

How about our automobiles and how they have changed over the years, it is estimated that $11,000 of the price for the average vehicle is the result of mandatory safety requirements place on the manufactures, many of us here probably remember what was the main protection for us as kids driving in a vehicle? We also can remember how structurally sound a vehicle was as well, National Highway Traffic Administration was established in 1970 and has claimed that it has saved hundreds of thousands of lives and millions of injuries in its 50 years.

With all these agencies out they to protect us we are still not totally safe, people have bad reactions to medication, accidents occur at the work place, car accidents still happen daily, and even having the greatest military in the world can’t make us 100% safe.

Psalm 91:1-2, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”

Psalm 91:4-5, “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;”

It’s crazy out there, medical personal has put out some horrible statements about harming patients they don’t agree with.

Psalm 56:2-4, “Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High. What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.”

Hebrews 13:6, “So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.”

Proverbs 18:10, “The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”
